MEM senior manager and DPSA Chief Operating Officer Neill Clur said the development would drastically increase the size of the company’s facilities for undertaking refurbishment and rebuilds of major mine equipment for customers including Westfarmers Curragh, Saraji and BMA Blackwater.
“The company has grown significantly since it became part of the DPSA Group and MEM now employs more than 165 qualified and skilled mechanical and fabrication trades people,” said Mike Wallas, CEO of DPSA.
The DPSA Group has provided funding and support for the growth of MEM and continues to support its strong financial and customer performance.
MEM turnover has doubled in size since acquisition.
The plans for the MEM site are:
- Building a 3600 sq metre slab to support high loads in excess of 300 tons
- Erecting six mobile cyclone, proof weather proof domes under which major works will be undertaken
- Installing a new 10 ton crane in MEM’s existing workshop area
- Extensions to existing offices.
“Planning is now underway and building will start as soon as practically possible,” said Mr Clur.
The ambitious expansion plans follow the successful renegotiation of key contracts for labour hire services to major mines. MEM customers include BMA, Leighton Contractors, McMahons, Cement Australia, Hastings, Terex Mining and Westfarmers.
Forecasts for the next year are strong with an upturn in mining continuing and this will give MEM good benefits, he said.
The DPSA Group has a national workforce of more than 300 people, with 165 employed in the Rockhampton region and 48 in the Mackay area.
DPSA – which owns Mining Engineering Maintenance (MEM) based in Rockhampton and DPSA Engineering in Mackay – was established in 1998 and was independently ranked 52nd in the top 80 mining service and technology companies in Australia on 2010.
MEM provides mechanical and fabrication services to major mining and earth moving companies in the Central Queensland region while DPSA Engineering – based in Mackay provides dragline and general mining equipment repairs as well as fabrication services to opencut mining operators. Together they cover a significant part of the Bowne Basin providing high quality services to our mining and infrastructure customers.
