Power Electric Switchboards (PES) has completed and delivered the 50-tonne, 25 metre switchroom they manufactured for the Carborough Downs Coal Mine expansion project.

The switchroom, which was fitted out by PES in their Brisbane workshop, completed a 1000km journey by truck to the Carborough Downs mine, near Moranbah in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

PES was awarded the contract for the switchroom by project manager Ausenco in November 2008. Switchgear for the job was supplied by NHP and Variable Speed Drives by ABB.

Carborough Downs will become one of Australia’s largest coal mines when the expansion project is completed in November 2009.
